The village of Kalives is located in Apokoronas, in the prefecture of Chania  / Crete / Greece, in the northwest of Crete, about 16 km east of Chania.

Kalives, a beautiful typical western-cretan coastal village has 1250 inhabitants who live and work there all year round. Not a lot has really  changed in this place over the last ten years.

Here, the beauty of the mountains (White Mountains, Madares) combines the scene of the blue sea (Bay of Kalives / Souda).

Five incredibly beautiful and safe sandy beaches (Xidas, Maistrali, Kolatos, Kyani Akti, Kera) with clean waters and three small rivers (Xidas, Mesopotamos, Kiliaris), having their origins in the White Mountains, belonging to Kalives.

Two beaches (Akti Xidia and Akti Maistrali) have been awarded by the European Commission with the "Blue Flag" for clean beaches in the past 15 years.

In Kalives, guests can spend a quiet holiday by the sea. In the restaurants and kafenia one can learn to know the traditional Cretan cuisine with its pure and genuine taste of fresh fish, seafood, meat and vegetable dishes. Because the village does not live from tourism only, prices are quite affordable.

From the village there are daily bus services to Chania and to the most of the villages in the Apokoronas and in the Sfakia.
Due to the geographical location of Kalives
(2 km away from the National road) the environment and the island can be explored by car or motor bike, taxi or bus straightforward.

Every 30 minutes, from early in the morning until late night, there are buses from the National road going into Chania, Rethimno, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos and further to other destinations as well.

The airport of Chania on the Akrotiri peninsula is about 22 km away and easily to be reached.
The distance to the airport of Heraklion is approximately 135 km.
Guests can also travel by boat. The port of Chania in Souda is 12 km away. Holidaymakers coming from the Peloponnese prefer the harbour of Kissamos.

You can find food and vegetable shops selling local fresh and healthy products (dairy, olive oil, wine, honey, citrus fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) and a supermarket. The bakery offers traditional Cretan bread, pastries and paximadi. There are small shops with traditional Cretan folk art (bobbin work, linnen, icons, ceramics, jewellery, etc.). There is a post office, banks, pharmacies, doctors and dentists and the hospital of Chania in a distance of 15 km.

The holidaymaker can watch the native Cretans sitting in the kafenia and taverns enjoying the Cretan way of life, but also going to the village church. Here, guests can find Cretan friends for life.

You can go walking in the picturesque streets of the village, in the endless olive groves, vineyards and orange groves, you can visit the neighbouring villages as well as old traditional villages of the Apokoronas.

In the past 15 years Kalives was a popular destination for many holidaymakers who like to come back every year and recommend the site to friends as well.
